The Emperor's Caged Bride

A Chinese Historical Romance

She was forced to marry her dead cousin's husband.

When sixteen-year-old Cui Jiao is torn from the arms of the man she loves and given to the Crown Prince as a replacement bride, she enters a palace still haunted by her predecessor's ghost. On their wedding night, he covers her eyes and whispers the wrong name.

As Empress, A-Jiao learns to mimic the dead woman's smile, brew her perfume, and recite her favorite poems — but nothing she does can make the Emperor see her as anything more than a shadow. When she dares to protect the man she once loved, the Emperor's jealousy turns savage: political purges destroy her family, and the gilded palace becomes a prison with no key.

Confined for years in the cold splendor of Weiyang Palace, A-Jiao must decide how much she is willing to sacrifice — her pride, her freedom, her life — to protect the people who still need her. But what if the cage was built not from hatred, but from a love too twisted to speak its name?

A completed novel of palace intrigue, impossible love, and a devastating final twist that changes everything you thought you knew.

The Cloud Beside the Moon

A Chinese Palace Romance

On her wedding night, a drunk Crown Prince tears through every shred of her dignity.

Ruan Yueying swears she will never forgive him — and never love him. Sealed inside the Eastern Palace with a husband who adores another woman, she finds her only warmth in two unlikely friendships: Hu Mianmian, a girl whose blind devotion to the Crown Prince burns brighter every day, and Qin Yunnong, the Crown Princess whose gentle smile hides a mind sharper than any blade.

When Mianmian dies of a broken heart, a grieving maid reveals the truth — the Crown Princess had been feeding Mianmian's obsession on purpose, stoking the fire until it consumed her. Yueying buries her tears and begins a calculated war for power, favor, and the seat that was supposed to be hers.

But revenge demands a price. Every ally she pulls close walks further into danger. Every mask she wears fits tighter around a heart she can no longer recognize. And the man she despises keeps looking at her with eyes that make her wonder whether hatred alone will be enough to last a lifetime.

A completed novel of palace intrigue, impossible love, and devastating moral reckoning — where winning everything means losing what matters most.

About the Author

Tia Shan writes literary tragedies set in imagined dynasties of ancient China — stories of women whose lives were shaped, and often undone, by palace walls, political duty, and love that arrived too early or too late.

She is drawn to the quiet corners of history: the woman behind the emperor, the concubine who never spoke, the wife who waited a lifetime for a letter that never came. Her writing lives somewhere between historical fiction and fable, where the dynasties are invented but the heartbreak is real.

She is currently at work on her third novel.
